Welcome … you have found the website of someone who is still growing up, still learning!  Long ago, I found a piece of paper with a quote on it, which inspired me:

It reminds me that every experience in life is full of meaning, full of spiritual depth.  Every experience holds the mystery of God's presence with and through us.  And the more we listen to our lives, the more nourishment we receive.  And as we are nourished, our souls feel full and fed.  That's what it means to grow up.

Spiritual direction is the act of listening to our lives.  It was originally an ancient art practiced largely in monastic settings.  It is now available to those of us who live ordinary lives – who work, pay bills, deal with families, and grow old.  Formal spiritual direction provides regular, usually monthly, occasions to discover the hidden meaning inside our stories and experiences. It is a safe place to share struggles, disappointments, and losses and to grow into the people we are created to be.

The Enneagram is very helpful in spiritual direction.  It provides a foundation for understanding ourselves and gives us a huge jump-start in learning how to work with our own particular issues.  The Enneagram describes the unconscious needs and motives that drive our actions.  And, once we figure out those patterns and impulses, we can work with them, metabolize them, so that we can connect to our real essence, and enjoy our lives!

WELCOME TO MY SITE

'The best thing for being sad,' replied Merlin to the young Arthur, 'is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. .. There is only one thing for it, then: To learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting.  Learning is the thing for you.'  (T. H. White, in The Once and Future King.)
